Adelaide United first won the premiership in the 2005-2006 season as they finished seven points clear of the rest of the competition. They came 3rd in the semi-finals. The club hold the record for the biggest win in the league with an 8-1 thrashing against now defunct side North Queensland Fury. They are one of three teams to have survived from the National Soccer League including Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory.
