Athens based AEK (Athlitiki Enosis Konstantinoupoleos) were founded by Greek refugees from Constantinople in 1924. The play at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. AEK's stadium has a capacity of 71,030 and was renovated for the Olympics of 2004. The translation of the teams name from Greek is Athletic Union of Constantinople.

The club logo is a double-headed eagle on a yellow background, a symbol first used by the Byzantine Empire and still used by the Greek Orthodox Church today

AEK Athens have won many football titles in Greece, with 11 league championships and 13 cup victories. The club is yet to claim a major European trophy but performs well in European competition regularly. Many of the AEK Athens players were involved in Greece's European Championship win of 2004.
