FC Anzhi Makhachkala plays in the Russian Premier League; a relatively new club, FC Anzhi Makhachkala were founded in 1991. The team plays in a yellow home strip with black stripes and numbering. They also have a white away strip and a green third strip.

The club side that play their home fixtures at the Dinamo stadium made their first progression into the Russian first division in 1996 before joining the Russian Premier League in 2000. In their first year of top flight football they achieved the highest place finish in the history of the club, fourth. FC Anzhi Makhachkala made their first appearance in Europe during the 2001/02 season when they lost to Rangers of Scotland 1-0 in a Euro Cup fixture.

The following year FC Anzhi Makhachkala dropped back to the first division and did not rejoin the Premier League until 2009. 2011 bought about exciting changes at the club when billionaire Suleyman Kerimov purchased the club. The extra capital bought into the club has allowed Anzhi Makhachkala to make some notable signings. Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos was bought to the club in February 2011 and now captains the side. In August Samuel Eto'o was bought from Inter Milan for €28 million.

The club also secured the services of former Chelsea midfielder Yuri Zhirkov. With the influx of quality players to FC Anzhi Makhachkala the club will be looking to challenge for the top spots in the Russian Premier League as they move forward.
