Atletico Mineiro are a Brazilian football club who were founded in 1908. The team played their very first official match in March 1909 and are seen as one of the most traditional clubs in Brazil. They are also one of the best supported clubs in their region although the 75,000 Mineirao stadium is barely ever filled. The ground is also shared with the club’s local rivals Cruzeiro. Joining the print in providing the shirt with its silver accent were the logos, middle sleeve cuff striping and the trim underlining the collar.

Atletico Mineiro Manto de Massa 2021 KitFollowing its success in 2020, Atletico Mineiro and Le Coq Sportif launched the Manto Da Massa once again in 2021, dubbing it as ‘113’ in celebration of the club’s 113th anniversary. The fan-designed jersey was primarily beige and showcased a detailed map of Minas Gerais as the highlight print design. Down on the right corner was the number ‘113’ shaped into a rooster, the nickname of Atletico Mineiro. The sleeve cuffs and collar complimented the beige base with their striped pattern consisting of a central orange stripe flanked by white and grey ones on the top and bottom.

 

 

The club are best known for being constant winners of the Minas Gerais State Championship before the Brazilian league was formed in 1970. This championship included the teams in the immediate region such as Cruzeiro, America Mineiro and Villa Nova. The team won their first State Championship in 1915. By 1958, they had racked up an impressive 20 triumphs. To date, they have won the competition a staggering 39 times. However, in the last decade, Atletico have only won the league twice due to Cruzeiro becoming the region’s dominant force.

Since it’s formation in 1971, the Brazilian Championship has been the nation’s largest competition as it incorporates the entire country. Atletico managed to win the first ever national league in 1971. However, that remains their only triumph to date as finishing runner up in 1977, 1980 and 1999 represents their best performances since.

During 2005, the club faced the unthinkable as they were relegated for the first time in their history. Nevertheless, they bounced back by winning the second tier of national Brazilian football in 2006.
