Holger Badstuber is a German footballer who plys his trade at Bayern Munich and the Germany national football team. He is primarily a centre back, although he is a capable left back and he is regarded as one of the best defenders in German football.
Badstuber began his professional career at his current club Bayern Munich playing for th B side in 2007 then the senior side in 2009. He made his debut in the first league game of the 2009Ã¢â‚¬â€œ10 season, against Hoffenheim and has been a regular in defence ever since. He scored his first senior goal, a powerful free kick, against Borussia MÃƒÂ¶nchengladbach on 4 December 2009.
A centre back by trade, he has been playing out of position at left back. The youngster impressed in his first season, and started all league games save one in the 2009Ã¢â‚¬â€œ10 Bundesliga season. On 4 February 2010, Bayern Munich announced that Badstuber had signed a new contract that would keep him at the club until 2014. On 3 February 2013, Badstuber signed a contract extension with Bayern, keeping him at the club until 2017.
Having played for several German youth sides Badstuber made his senior debut for Germany in 2010 making his debut against Hungary. Badstuber was then selected in Germany's 23-man squad for the world cup finals in South Africa on 1 June. Badstuber has clearly established himself as one of the best German defenders in the game.
