Bastia 2018 Shirts
SC Bastia is a French club based on the island of Corsica, in the South-east of France, which was founded in 1905. Currently, the club plays in Ligue 2, after being relegated from the top division in the 2004/05 season. The 2004/05 season saw Bastia gain just 41 points from 38 league matches, finishing the season with a goal deficit of 16 goals and ranking in the 19th position. Bastia are nicknamed Les Bleus after their traditional blue colours. The team plays its home matches at 12000-capacity Stade Armand Cesari. The stadium was opened in 1932. A disaster took place in 1992 when one of the terraces collapsed, causing the unfortunate death of 18 supporters and sending more than 2000 severely injured fans to hospital.
SC Bastia are managed by ex-Marseille and ex-France player Bernard Casoni. The 30-times-capped ex-defender took over the club in 2005, with the sole aim of steering Bastia back to Ligue 1 and restoring some pride to the Corsican island. Until today, he hasn't succeeded in doing this. The club has enjoyed some truly memorable successes in the past. They were UEFA Cup finalists in 1978 (eventually losing 3-0 on aggregate against PSV), won the Intertoto Cup in 1997 and the Coupe de France in 1981. Some notable players that played for Bastia in the past were Pascal Chimbonda (2003-05, currently at Tottenham) and Michael Essien (2000-03, currently a Chelsea player).
SC Bastia play their home games wearing an all blue home kit with white trim and their away kit usually is white with blue trim. The club have never won the Ligue 1 title but they have won the Ligue 2 on two occasions in 1968 and 2012. The club have had several world class players to play for the side including Alex Song, Mickael Landreau, Michael Essien, Antar Yahia, Claude Papi and Charles Orlanducci.
