Ballspiel-Verein Borussia 1909 e.V. Dortmund, better known as Borussia Dortmund and often shortened to BVB were formed in December 1909. They play their home games in the almost 83,000 capacity Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund have won several major pieces of silverware in their history including several Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and DFB-Supercup titles as well as winning the 1996-97 UEFA Champions League.
Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund wear yellow home shirts with black shorts and yellow socks which are manufactured by Nike and sponsored by Evonik. The away kit for Borussia Dortmund is black with yellow pinstripes while the third European shirt is light grey with dark grey trim. The club play at Westfalenstadion or Signal Iduna Park containing over 80,000 seats and in recent seasons they have been very successful winning the Bundesliga title in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
Champions League Kits
Having won the Champions League on one occasion in 1997, Borussia Dortmund have been one of the best German sides to play on the European stage. The club were recently runners-up in the 2013-14 Champions League to German rivals Bayern Munich. The side that won the 1996-97 Champions League including several big name players including Karl-Heinz Riedel, Matthias Sammer, Andreas Moller and Paul Lambert. Other European titles for Borussia Dortmund include one Cup Winners title.
Borussia Dortmund were pooled in Group D of the 2014-15 Champions League group stage along with Anderlecht, Arsenal and Galatasaray. The club have a grey third shirt which was also used last season to wear in the away matches in the Champions League. Borussia Dortmund will also wear a special Champions League home kit for their home matches in the tournament.
For the 2013-14 Champions League, Borussia Dortmund topped their group containing Arsenal, Napoli and Marseille. Dortmund went on to beat Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Round of 16 before losing to eventual champions Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Borussia Dortmund were pooled in Group D of the 12-13 Champions League group stage along with Real Madrid, Ajax and Manchester City. The club surprisingly topped their group ahead of Real Madrid who they again met in the semi-finals of the same tournament. Dortmund lost to German rivals Bayern Munich 1-2 in the final. The side that made the final included several big name players for the side including Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundogan, Sven Bender and Mats Hummels. The likes of Mats Hummels, Roman Weidenfeller and Kevin Grosskreutz played for Germany when they won the World Cup in 2014.
