Christian Benteke is a Belgian footballer who plays as a striker for English club Liverpool FC and international football for the Belgian national team. Benteke was born in Zaire on the 3rd of December 1990 and he began his club career at Belgian club Genk in 2007. Benteke moved to Standard Liege in 2009 where he went on a series of loan moves to Kortijk and Mechelen then he re-signed for Genk in 2011.
In 2011 Benteke really made a name for himself where he scored over 20 goals in over 30 matches for the Belgian club and this attracted the likes of Aston Villa who snapped him up for £7 million on a four year deal. The Belgian had a prolific first season at Villa where he scored 23 goals in 39 matches a sensational record for a 22 year old at the time. Since then Benteke made 100 appearances for the club whilst scoring a respectable 49 goals in the process which attracted other bigger English clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool were the club that were able to secure the player's services through meeting the £32.5 million release clause on 22 July 2015, ready for the 2015/16 season. Benteke possess as Liverpool's star striker and wears the number 9 shirt as worn previously by club legends Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler
Benteke made his debut for Belgium at the Under-17 level before making his senior debut in 2010 where he played in a friendly against Bulgaria. He netted his first goal for his nation against Netherlands in a friendly which ended in a 4-2 loss. Benteke was one of several Belgians in the Premier League at the time including Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea, Thomas Vermaelen at Arsenal, Marouane Fellaini and Kevin Mirallas at Everton, Vincent Kompany at Manchester City and Moussa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen at Tottenham Hotspur.
