Nicknamed the Blue Sharks the Cape Verde national football team currently play in the CAF. The sides first ever international was in January 1979 in which they played Guinea-Bissau losing 3-0. The side qualified for their first ever Africa Nations Cup in 2013. They made it through the group stage coming secong behind hosts South Africa in Group A thanks to two late goals to beat Angola in their last ANC group match.
The home shirts feature a blue colour with red trim which reflects their national flag. The sides honours include the 2000 Amilcar Cabral Cup and a gold medal in the Lusophony Games in 2009.
The side play their home games in the Estadio da Varzea stadium which holds 10,000 people. The sides highest ever FIFA ranking was 51 in October 2012.
On 14 October 2012, Cape Verde managed to secure their first ever berth in the Finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, when they defeated Cameroon 3–2 on aggregate score.
