Ricardo Carvalho is a Portuguese defender who most notably played for Chelsea and Real Madrid. Currently at AS Monaco Carvalho possesses great tactical awareness and aerial abilities which made him one of the most feared centre halves in world football. At FC Porto and Chelsea Carvalho helped the each club to win three league titles each which lead to his imminent transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Ricardo Carvalho started his career in 1978, at the age of 20, at Porto where he signed his first professional contract. The young player had the potential to be a star, but he had to be loaned out twice before he could start appearing regularly for Porto. He spent the season 1999-00 at Vitoria FC and the 2000-01 at FC Alverca. Carvalho caught the public eye thanks to his then-manager Jose Mourinho at Porto, who played him regularly in the 2003-04 season when Porto won both the domestic league and the historic UEFA Champions League.
Eventually, The Special One. (Mourinho) was signed by Chelsea and he bought defenders Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho for his new club. The fee paid for Carvalho was a huge 19,850,000. He appears regularly for Chelsea, even after his manager Mourinho was relieved of his duties.
Carvalho plays for his home-nation Portugal as well, making 40 appearances and scoring 4 times for the team until today.
