Cech is one of the best and most recognisable goalkeepers in world football. Playing for Chelsea since 2004, the Czech has become renowned for his superb keeping in Chelsea's three league title wins this decade, for his individual keeping records, and for his peculiar rugby-styled headgear he wears in goal. He began his professional career as a striker in the Czech Republic, but after moving to Sparta Prague in 2001 he changed positions permanently to keep goal.

During this time he starred for the Czech Republic at youth level, notably being a penalty-shootout hero as the Czech side won the U21 UEFA Championship in 2002. After moving to France to the club Rennes in 2002, Cech continued to impress – particularly for the national team. He debuted in 2002, and was part of the Euro 2004 team that made the semi-finals. That year, Chelsea came calling, and he moved to England for £7 million. Wearing the number 1 shirt, he broke into Jose Mourinho's side in his first year as Chelsea won their first league title in fifty years.

Since then, Cech has won two more league titles, three FA Cups, and a bunch of other silverware as well as many personal accolades – particularly after a severe head injury in 2006. At the beginning of a game against Reading, he went down in a challenge from Nicky Hunt, and suffered from a depressed skull fracture. It was claimed he almost died, but since recovering has worn a skull-cap that has become his trademark style in goal.

Cech has also been prominent in the Czech national side, which he now captains. He's played 84 times for the Republic, and despite Czech football's disappointing results in recent years, continues to be their talisman. He is a top keeper with many years left in the tank.
