Fabio Coentrao is a Portuguese defender who plays for Real Madrid. He started his career at Rio Ave in Portugal where he played 29 matches scoring five goals. He moved to Benfica in 2007. He went on a series of loan moves to Nacional, Real Zaragoza and Rio Ave form 2008 to 2009. He finally found a place in Benficas team in 2010. He played 52 matches scoring two goals for the club.
In July 2011 he signed for Spanish giants Real Madrid for 30 million euros. He made his debut against Barcelona in the Spanish Supercup where Real Madrid lost 5-4 on aggregate to Barcelona. He made his league debut in a match against Zaragoza on the 28th of August. Coentrao faces competition from Brazilian full back Marcelo for the left back spot.
Coentrao has played for Portugal U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 youth sides before making his senior debut in 2009 in a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in November. He has played over 25 matches for Portugal. Coentrao is a speedy wing back who can often play in the left midfield. He is a player who can provide many crosses and assists.
