Cruz Azul were founded as an amateur team on 22nd May 1927 by the workers of the La Cruz Azul S.A. cement company in the town of Jasso, Hidalgo, Mexico. They often played for Hidalgo in Mexican amateur tournaments. The Cruz Azul team wear a football kit of blue shirts, white shorts and socks. The away strip is white shirts and socks with blue shorts.
In terms of league titles Cruz Azul are one of the most dominant as they have won a total of 8 titles including several international titles such as the CONCACAF Champions League. Cruz Azul wear blue, red and white home colours where their shirts are supplied by Umbro.

The amateur team played many times in Mexico City, against the reserve squads of professional teams, but in 1960 the new owners of the cement company decided to register the team for the Segunda Division. In 1964 the team won that league and were promoted to Mexico's top flight.
Several notable players have played for the club including Cesar Delgado and Gerardo Torrado and they have had several kit suppliers in their history including Azul Sport, Fila and Umbro.
