Daniel Alves da Silva was born on the 6th of May 1983 in Juazeiro, Brazil. He began his professional career at Bahia in 2001. He played 25 league matches scoring two goals for the club. In 2002 he signed a loan deal which shifted to permanent after one season for Spanish side Sevilla in 2002. He made was on the verge of signing for Liverpool in 2006 but the deal broke down. In 2007 he was linked with Chelsea but the bid was rejected by Sevilla. He played 175 league matches for the club scoring 11 goals.
In July 2008 he signed for Spanish giants Barcelona for 23 million euros. This made him the most expensive defender in the world at the time. He made his debut for the club against Wisla Krakow in the Champions League in August 2008. He has played over 130 league matches for the club. He has cemented the right back position at the club in the past few seasons. He was a key player in the successful 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 La Liga campaigns.
He made his international debut for Brazil in 2006 against Kuwait in a friendly. He has won the 2007 Copa America, 2009 Federations Cup and 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship with Brazil. Since then he has played over 50 matches for Brazil.
