Matteo Darmian is an Italian defender who plays for Premier League giants Manchester United and the Italy national team. Although aged just in his mid 20's it seems Darmian has been around at the top for many years, partially down to his first team debut with AC Milan coming before the player's 17th birthday.
Born in Legnano, Italy, Darmian joined the renowned AC Milan youth system at the tender age of 11 years old. Progressing through the academy and developing into a potential future star of the club, Darmian was prematurely called into first team action for Milan's Coppa Italia fixture against Brescia due to an injury to the long serving Kakha Kaladze. Although making an impact so early on in his career with Milan, Darmian failed to appear on the first team pitch as much as wanted and therefore searched for a new club to pose as a more integral member of the team and therefore signed for Serie A counterparts. Unfortunately signing for Palermo wouldn't offer Darmian the game time demanded which saw Darmian try his luck with his third Serie A club in the form of Torino.
His 825,000 move to Torino would prove Darmian's breakthrough step in his career as the player became an instant starter for the team, making 34 appearances in his debut season. Over the course of four seasons Darmian developed into the star he was set to become from an early age and managed to make over 150 appearances before impressing Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal enough to prompt a transfer worth £12.7 million and become part of the Dutch coach's revolution. Now a Manchester United player, Darmian hopes to continue with his progression as a player and maintain his high importance within the squad to push for league titles and European success alongside a star-studded squad.
Darmian showcased as a vital part of the Italian youth ranks having appeared for the U17's to the U21's before being included in the prestigious 23-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Playing and starring in Italy's three group stage fixtures, Darmian shone in the tournament which earned him the accolade of the Pallone Azzurro which indicates the best player of the national team for 2014.
