De Bruyne was born on the 28th of June 1991 in Drongen, Belgium and he began his club career at Racing Genk making his professional debut in May 2009 in a 3-0 defeat against Charleroi. He netted his first goal for the club against Standard Liege in February 2010 in a 1-0 win. He helped the club to win the Belgian League title in the 2010-11 season where he scored five goals, made 16 assists and 32 league matches for the club. His prolific form at the club attracted several bigger European clubs including Chelsea.
In January 2012 De Bruyne officially signed for English club Chelsea on deadline day for £7 million signing a five and a half year deal at the club. De Bruyne would stay at Racing Genk for the rest of the season. De Bruyne was loaned to Werder Bremen in August 2012 for the whole season and he scored an impressive 10 goals and made 10 assists at the club before returning to the club for the 2013-14 season. After his loan spell at Werder Bremen De Bruyne made his debut under new manager Jose Mourinho in August 2013 against Hull City in a 2-0 win where he assisted the first goal and received the man of the match award. De Bruyne made his debut for Belgium in August 2010 in a friendly against Finland and he netted his first goal against Serbia in a 2-0 win in October 2012.
Falling out of favour with Mourinho, De Bruyne would search elsewhere for regular first team football which saw a permanent move to the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg in an £18 million deal. De Bruyne would prove an instant sensation and vital member of the team's attacking threat, which saw the player top the European assist table for the 2014/15 season. The player's wizardry in the final third of the pitch would attract big money club Manchester City who splashed £55 million onto Wolfsburg's table who couldn't refuse the offer. De Bruyne takes to the pitch in City's sky blue for the 2015/16 campaign
