David de Gea Quintana was born on the 7th of November 1990 in Madrid, Spain. He began his career at Atletico Madrid B side where he played 35 matches. He made his debut for Atletico in 2009 at the age of 18. He became a first team regular at the club as he made 57 appearances in three seasons. He won the 2009-10 UEFA Europa League and 2010 UEFA Super Cup with Atletico. De Gea signed for Manchester United in 2011 making him the immediate replacement for departing Edwin van der Sar.
In 2011 de Gea replaced Edwin van der Sar in the goal of Manchester United. He made his debut for the club in the 3-1 friendly win over Chicago Fire. He made his competitive debut in the Community Shield match against Manchester City in which United won 3-2.
He has played over 30 league matches for the club. In recent seasons he has faced competition from Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard.
de Gea has played for Spain U-15, U-17, U-19, U-20, U-21 and U-23 youth levels. He was selected to play in the 2012 London Olympic Games with Spain. He has won the 2007 U-17 and 2011 U-21 UEFA European Championships. De Gea faces competition from Iker Casillas, Victor Vales and Pepe Reina Spain's number one spot.
