American soccer legend Clint Dempsey is a versatile goal scoring midfielder and he plays for MLS side Seattle Sounders. Born in Texas on the 9th March, 1983 Dempsey's story is one of ÃƒÂ¢€Ã‹Å“rags to riches'. He currently plays for Fulham in the English Premier League.
Dempsey was first noticed by scouts juggling a ball on a pitch sideline when his older brother Ryan was trialling for the Dallas Texans, an elite youth soccer team. Clint was given an opportunity to play for the Texans and immediately impressed coaches. Due to financial constraints with his older sister Jennifer pursuing a tennis career, Clint was nearly forced to quit. However support from the club and teammates parents allowed him to continue. After a successful tenure captaining and finishing top goal scorer for the Texans Dempsey was offered a place in Arsenals youth set up. He declined due to family issues and went on to Furman University instead.
Scoring 17 goals in 61 Matches for Furman, Dempsey was later drafted to the New England Revolution. Dempsey was a consistent goal scorer in the MLS competition and helped his side reach the MLS Cup Final twice. In December 2006, Dempsey signed a record breaking contract for an MLS player when he signed with London side Fulham. His goal scoring ability from midfield has been vital to Fulham's success and his hard work was rewarded when he was voted the Club's Player of the Season for 2010/11.
The tenacious American has represented his country and scored goals in both the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. Dempsey is regarded as one of the most consistent performers in the English Premier League, his toughness and amazing dribbling ability means he is a constant goal threat and worry for opposing teams.
