Abou Diaby is a French midfielder who plays for English club Arsenal and the France national team. Born In Paris, Diaby joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2006 and has played over 125 matches for the London club.
Diaby was born on the 11th of May 1986 and he began his professional career at Auxerre making his debut for the club in August 2004 in a 3-1 win against Rennes. He made his European debut in Auxerre's UEFA Cup Round of 16 against French side Lille where they won 1-0 on aggregate. He went on to play 14 matches for the club before moving abroad to English club Arsenal.
On the 13th of January 2006 Diaby signed for Arsenal for £2 million. He had reportedly turned down an offer from Arsenal rivals Chelsea. He was given the number two shirt left vacant by Lee Dixon and he made his club debut in January 2006 in a 1-0 defeat to Everton. He made his UEFA Champions League debut in the club's Round of 16 leg victory against Real Madrid. He scored his first goal for the club against Aston Villa on the 1st of April 2006 in a 5-0 win.
On the 1st of May Diaby suffered a serious ankle fracture where he subsequently missed the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final against Barcelona. He went through eight months of rehabilitation and made his return in the 2006-07 season in a League Cup match against Liverpool. Diaby has gone through a series of injuries in his Arsenal career and when his is fit he usually starts along with Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil in the midfield. He made his France debut in 2007 against Lithuania in a UEFA EURO 2008 Qualifying match.
