Dundee United is a Scottish football club based in Dundee. They share a local rivalry with Dundee F.C., and their encounters are known as the ‘Dundee Derby.’ The almost 15,000-capacity Tannadice Park has served as the team’s home ground since the club’s foundation in 1909. Known as the ‘Tangerines,’ Dundee United play their home games wearing shirts based on the said colour. However, fans have embraced being called the ‘Arabs,’ based on an incident where United played so well on a heavily sanded pitch, prompting the statement ‘they took to the sand like Arabs.

Dundee United’s 2023/24 Errea home shirt followed tradition and had the vivid orange as the most prominent colour, covering the sleeves and the body. Adding to the classic side of things were the black collar and sleeve cuffs, both of which contained a white middle striping. But tradition met modernity courtesy of the front side’s tonal marbling pattern that subtly include the lion rampant of the club crest.

Dundee United Home 2022/23 KitInspired by the league-winning 1982/83 home kit, Dundee United’s Macron home shirt featured a clean orange base with black accents from the logos and the polo collar with a v-neckline. A retro crest further added nostalgia and fidelity to the kit inspiration. A bespoke message was written just below the collar at the back of the shirt in memory of the above mentioned league title. Macron hero logos flowed down the sleeves to complete the look of the shirt.

Both the front and back sides displayed the aforementioned visuals. The sleeves and their cuffs remained black, while the collar contained piping in white.

Dundee United began wearing tangerine kits in 1969 to present a more modern image. United shirts before then were usually white with black accents (and going as far back as their foundation as Dundee Hibernian one would see green kits patterned after Irish colours). One shirt in particular, the 1960/61 home, had two bold horizontal stripes running across the chest to go with the prominent sleeve cuffs and v-collar, all of which were black. The club did not have any particular design inclination, and so their home kit catalogue involved shirts of varied design like tonal graphics, stripes and accent-driven ones.

While not one of the usual names to be recognised as a strong club from Scotland, Dundee United does have titles under their resume. Dundee United had won the league title at the conclusion of the 1982/83 season, and the Scottish Cups during the 1993/94 and 2009/10 seasons.

A surprising feat that still stands is that they are the only British club to have a 100% record against Barcelona, recording four wins out of four matches.
