Euro 2020

Euro 2020 represented the 60th anniversary of the tournament. To celebrate the milestone, the competition was hosted by 11 cities in 11 UEFA countries as a ‘romantic,’ one-off event. It made Euro 2020 the second senior international tournament after the 2007 AFC Asian Cup to have more than two nations as co-hosts. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, it was postponed to June and July 2021 but retained the UEFA Euro 2020 name. Because of the conservative use of VAR, quick refereeing decisions and, most importantly, most goals per game since the beginning of the group stage format, Euro 2020 gained praise and was deemed one of the best international tournaments ever. Italy defeated England via penalty shooutout in the finals to end their 53-year wait for a Euro title.

Euro 2016

This Euro held in France was the first time the tournament was expanded to 24 teams. As such, the knockout phase began to have a Round of 16 and was achieved by including the top 4 third-place teams from the six groups. Euro 2016 will forever be etched in football history as Portugal’s first Euro title. In addition, it was the first international tournament title Cristiano Ronaldo won. Stretchered out due to injury in the finals, CR7 provided inspiring support from the bench and assisted the manager in coaching his teammates to victory against host France.
