Chelsea Announces New Nike Home Shirt!

Chelsea announces its 2022/23 Nike home shirt in honour of club legend Ted Drake. Drake is best known for guiding the club to its first league title in 1955 and modernising it to become one of the most competitive in English football. Drake is also responsible for changing Chelsea’s nickname from ‘the Pensioners’ to ‘the Blues,’ which has continued to define the players today. Another inspiring change started by Drake is the incorporation of the lion into the crest. All these details about the respected manager get a nod in the latest home jersey.

The Nike shirt has limited secondary colour applications to the otherwise plain blue outfit, and much of it is sourced from the henley collar in white with a turquoise lion pattern, a recognition of the first Chelsea kit with the ‘Lion Rampant’ badge. The white Swoosh also glows with a turquoise outline. Nike’s introduction of a new Vapor Match knit pattern becomes symbolic of the club’s innovation under Drake.
