Club Atletico San Lorenzo Sends Special Shirt To Pope Francis

Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as the Catholic Church’s Pope last Thursday, taking the name of Francis. The 76-year old from Buenos Aires is the first Latin American Pope and by now you are probably wondering why this is being reported on a football shirt site…

It turns out that Argentine club San Lorenzo have the privilege of having Pope Francis as one of the members of their club. As a special tribute, the club have designed a special shirt which will be sent to Pope Francis.

San Lorenzo de Almagro published an official statement showing their happiness and pride because of the designation of the Argentinian and San Lorenzo’s fan Jorge Bergoglio as the new Pope, while wishes him great success in his new responsibility.

He was like a season ticket holder and all. I did contemplate getting a San Lorenzo shirt with Fracisco on the back, until I remembered that it’d cost loads and that ultimately Lotto makes their shirts. I like that San Lorenzo have done this though, given how they were formed by a Parish priest and parishioners.

    Is this for real???

Never miss an opportunity to increase marketing. I remember when David Mellor was reported to be scoring in a Chelsea shirt more often than Fernando Torres does, Umbro released a shirt with big red flaps around the hole for the head to go through.
