Nike Include 97 Details In New Reds Release
The Reds of Merseyside launched a new home kit for the upcoming 2022/23 season. The Nike-produced shirt will launch globally on May 19, 2022. Its design centres on the traditional colour of the club, a clean and understated look on a red base that is darker than the 2021/22 home. Only the white logos of the different stakeholders add secondary colour detail to the otherwise plain red jersey.
But small details do appear as references to some of the club’s historical football moments, such as the Hillsborough symbol (updated with the number ’97’ to pay respect to the recent passing of Andrew Devine, one of the victims of the ’89 disaster) on the back below the neckline and the YNWA embroidery on the sleeve cuffs.
The lettering points to the initials of the traditional song ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ which gained a new meaning and significance following the unfortunate event in 1989.
