Faroe Islands are a football team that play in the UEFA Confederation. The nation gained FIFA Membership on the 2nd of July 1988 and they joined UEFA on the 18th of April. Their first victory was a 1-0 win against Canada in 1989. They pulled one of the biggest upsets in football history as they beat Austria 1-0 in their first competitive international on the 12th of September 1990. The nation have won the Island Games in 1989 and 1991.
The nation play their home games in white and blue shirts. Torsvollur and Svangaskaru are their two home stadiums. They both hold approximately 6,000 seats. On March 22, 2009 the Faroe Islands played Iceland in a Friendly match and beat them 2–1. It was the first time they had ever won against Iceland.
Faroe Islands highest ever FIFA ranking was 94 in December 1992. The nations most capped player is Oli Johannesen with 83 matches. The nations biggest ever official win was 3-0 against San Marino in May 1995.
In the Faroe Islands the team is known as the landsliðið. Home matches are played at the Tórsvøllur or Svangaskarð.
