At 1.94m tall, 85kg and sporting a fan favourite afro hairstyle, Marouane Fellaini is an intimidating presence for Manchester United's opposition in the English Premier League. Born in Etterbeek, Belgium, Fellaini started his football career at Anderlecht aged seven. Fellaini has developed a reputation for being one of the strongest midfielders in the game.
Scoring 63 goals in his first two seasons with the academy his talent was there for all to see from early on. Fellaini played at a number of clubs including; Mons, R. Frances Borains & Sporting Charleroi before signing his first permanent contract with Standard Liege in 2004. In 84 appearances for the Belgian First Division side he scored 11 times and came to be regarded as a brilliant midfield player with strong heading ability and stamina.
Amid interest from Premier League and European clubs Fellaini signed for Everton in September 2008 for a club record fee of £15million. His first goal came for his new club against Newcastle United on October 5, 2008. At the end of that season he was rewarded for his efforts by being named Everton's Young Player of the Season. Fellaini usually adopts a defensive midfield position for Everton but is capable of playing in a more advanced role, a position he took up after teammate Tim Cahill was injured during the 2008/09 season.
Born to Moroccan parents, Fellaini was eligible to play for either Morocco or his country of birth, Belgium. He chose to represent Belgium and has appeared in over 30 fixtures to date scoring goals against the likes of Portugal & Germany. Fellaini also played at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where Belgium finished 4th.
