Fernando is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Premier League side Manchester City and the Brazil national football team. Beginning his career in Brazil with Vila Nova, Fernando moved to FC Porto in 2007 helping the side to win several Primeira Liga titles as well as the 2010-11 Europa League before moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2014.
Fernando was born on the 25th of July 1987 in Alto Paraiso, Brazil and he began his club career at Vila Nova in 2005. He played two years in Brazil before moving to Europe with FC Porto in 2007. Signing a five year deal with the Portuguese club Fernando spent his first year at the club on loan at Estrela Amadora. On his return to Porto Fernando quickly established himself at the club and he helped the side to win four Primeira Ligas and one Europa League as well as several domestic cup titles.
In June 2014 Manchester City signed Fernando for 12 million pounds and he made his debut for the club in the community shield against Arsenal. His Premier League debut came against Newcastle United in a 2-0 win on the opening day of the 2014-15 season.
Internationally Fernando represented the Brazil U-20 side that competed at the 2007 South American Youth Championship. Fernando was sent off for assaulting a referee and he received a one year ban from CONMEBOL competitions.
