Nottingham Forest are most notably known for winning the European Cup in 1979 and 1980. Forest for Short, the club wear red home shirts with white shorts and are manufactured by Macron. Whereas most shirts are sponsored by private companies, Forest kits are sponsored by The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, one of the few to have a public institution to do so. Nottingham Forest play their home games wearing red shirts, the club had their period at the top when Brian Clough the mercurial manager took them to the old First Division Championship in 1978. Forest then went on to win the European Cup twice in succession; they also won the European Super Cup, which was then held between the winners of the European Champions´ Cup and the European Cup Winners´ Cup. During the same period the club also won four League Cups.

Nottingham Forest Football Club were formed in 1865, contrary to popular belief Nottingham Forest takes it name from the Forest Recreation Ground, a public space in the city proper where the club were formed, rather than Sherwood Forest. Nottingham Forest who are often called just Forest play their home games at the City Ground on Pavillion Road in Nottingham.

In the current period of super rich clubs it seems unlikely that any manager could emulate the achievements of Brian Clough nowadays.
