Gaston Ramirez is a Uruguayan footballer who plays for English outfit Hull City on loan from Southamtpon and the Uruguay national football team. Ramirez is most notably known for his creativity and passing skills in the attacking midfield position.
Born in Fray Bentos, Ramirez started his senior career in Uruguay with Penarol, making his professional debut for the club in March 2009. In his second year at Penarol, Ramirez scored 6 goals in 20 games, helping the club win the 2009-10 Primera Division. In August 2010, Ramirez was sold to Bologna for a fee of 2.5 million euros. He made his Bologna debut in a 1-1 draw away to Catania on 26 September 2010. Ramirez finished his first season at Bologna with four goals and two assists in 25 league appearances, and scored an additional three goals in two Coppa Italia games.
On 31 August 2012, he joined Southampton for a reported £12m, signing a four-year contract. He made his debut on 15 September in a 6-1 defeat against Arsenal, coming on as a half-time substitute for Steven Davis. He scored his first goal on 29 September 2012, opening the scoring in a 3-1 defeat against Everton. His first home goal came in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle United on 25 November. In the summer of 2014 Ramirez signed a season long loan deal with Premier League side Hull City.
Having played for Uruguay at several youth levels he made his senior debut for Uruguay in 2010. His first senior goal was against Panama in 2-0 win in July 2012. Ramirez was selected to play for Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup.
