Getafe was founded in 1946 and re-founded in 1983. Getafe play their home games at Coliseum Alfonso Perez, Getafe, Madrid. Their first La Liga season came in the 2004/2005 season. Getafe were tipped to go back down to Spanish Second division football immediately but they managed to hang on in the Primera Liga and made massive improvements in the following seasons. Their best ever achievements up to date is that of being Runners-up in the Copa del Rey in the 2006-07 season. Getafe can go a step further in this season (07/08) if they manage to overcome Valencia in the Cup final.
Getafe started bagging wins over quality teams like Valencia and Atletico Madrid. Getafe's most memorable cup tie win definitely goes back to the Copa del Rey cup tie against Barcelona. The first leg was an embarrassing moment for Getafe as they were trounced by Barca 5-2 yet they managed to produce a magnificent come back to beat them 6-5 on aggregate.
Getafe lately could have gone through to the UEFA Cup semi-finals had it not been for a very unlucky night at the Coliseum. Getafe lost a 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the dying seconds of regular time and then lost a two-goal lead in extra-time, again in the dying moments of extra-time.
