Andre-Pierre Gignac is a French footballer who currently plays for France and Marseille. Gignac is primarily a striker who can play on the wings when needed. He is described as a powerful and dangerous striker who is known for his aerial presence. Gignac of Algerian and Romani descent, began his career at Fos and Martigues. In 2002 he joined Brittany club FC Lorient in 2004.
At FC Lorient he starred for two seasons which included a loan stint at Pau. He ended up playing 53 matches scoring 11 goals for the club. In 2007 Gignac joined Toulouse. After early struggles Gignac began to perform and he netted 25 goals in all competitions in the 2008-09 season. He became the league's top goal scorer with 24 goals. After a sub par season in 2009-10 he joined defending champions Marseille. In 2010 he signed a five year deal with the south coast side. During his first season he had struggled for form an received criticism from the public. Gignac was set to sign for Fulham in August 2011 but the deal broke through.
Gignac made his France debut in 2009 in a 1-0 win over Lithuania. He scored his first in a match against Faroe Islands. Gignac has a son also named Andre-Pierre.
