Born in Preston, Lancashire Jones began his footballing career with the youth team at Blackburn Rovers at the age of 10. He joined the senior side for the 2009-2010 season and signed a two year contract at the club. On the 22nd of September 2009 he made his debut for the club against Nottingham Forest in a League Cup match in which Blackburn won 1-0. Hart has been one of the club's most important players in recent seasons where he was pivotal in the 2011-2012 Premier League campaign.
In February 2010 he signed a five year contract. He made his Premier League debut in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on the 21st of March 2010. He played a total of 40 matches for Blackburn Rovers. Late in the 2010-2011 season he attracted a lot of interest from upcoming league champions Manchester United. On the 13th of June 2011 he signed a five year deal worth £16.5 million.
He made his debut for the side in the 2011 Community Shield match against rivals Manchester City, helping the side to win 3-2 making this his first piece of silverware in his career. He made his league debut against West Bromwich Albion a week later where United won 2-1. Since joining the club he has played in several different positions including right back, centre back and the centre of midfield. He scored his first goal for the club on the 3rd of December 2011 against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
On the 7th of October 2011 he made his international debut in a EURO 2012 qualifying match against Montenegro in which the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The England Manager Fabio Capello compared Jones to the likes of Italian great Franco Baresi and Spanish great Fernando Hierro as he has the ability to play well in many different positions.
