They have made it to three world cups, 1978 1998 & 2006 but have yet to make it out of the first round. Iran have won three Asian cups om 1968, 1972 & 1976.

Iran have won the Asia Cup on three occasions and have been third place on four occasions. Iran have played in three World Cups where they have never played through the group stage.

World Cup Kits

Iran's 2014 World Cup home and away shirts are manufactured by Uhlsport. The new Iran home shirt uses the traditional primary white kit of the three-time Asian Cup winners with the red and green of the country’s national flag appearing in the neck and chest areas. The away shirt uses a red base with a green crew neck, sleeve cuffs and chest graphics. Along with the Iran 2014 home kit, it features a prominent print of the Asiatic cheetah on its front.

Iran's home kit have used the same colours every World Cup competition implementing an all white colour combination. Green and red trim is often the trim for the Iranians.

For Iran's first World Cup appearance in 1978 the kit was finished off by the three stripes of adidas in red down either side while the 1998 design saw green become the primary second colour while the word 'Iran' was spelled across the chest.

Their next World Cup in 2006 saw a return to the former colour scheme with only red additions to both shorts and socks taking away from the white of the team's uniform.

In terms of away kits Iran have most commonly used an all red display where a combination of green, red and white is the most common trim. Third shirts for Iran have seen green shirts included.

Currently manufactured by Uhlsport, Iran have had several brands supply their kits including adidas, Puma, Legea, Panil and Daei.

While there is little variation among the three designs used to date the 2006 shirt is most notably the best design thus far in aesthetic terms. The 1998 kit brought the country's only win at a World Cup and it was glorified by Iranian legend Ali Daei.
