The Italian rugby union side play in the annual Six nations tournament. Other clubs include England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and France. Italy are one of the best teams in Europe. The team are nicknamed the Azzurri (the Blues). The football mad nation have been playing rugby since the 1920s. They play in the annual Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy in which they play against France.
The Italian side became more prominent in 2000 when they were added into the Five Nations now called Six nations. Italy have also competed at every Rugby World Cup since its beginning in 1987. Their best ever finish in a World Cup were two wins in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 tournament. The sides largest ever win was 104-8 against Czech Republic and their first international was against Spain in a 9-0 defeat. The nations home stadium is Stadio Olimpico which also holds AS Roma and Lazio in the Serie A.
The side play in a traditional blue jerseys with white shorts. Their shirts are produced by adidas and previously by Kappa. Alessandro Troncon holds the record for most number of caps with 101 and Diego Dominguez holds the record for most number of points with 983.
