Kenya are a national football team from Africa who played their first full international in 1926 which saw a 1-1 draw against Uganda. The team experienced their biggest win in 1961 with a 10-0 scoreline against Zanzibar. However, they were thrashed by Ghana 13-0 in 1965 to record their largest defeat. They are currently ranked in 112th in the world which is far below their best position of 68th in 2008.
The team attempted qualification to the World Cup for the first in 1974. However, they failed on that occasion to make the finals. In fact, the team has never reached the World Cup finals in their history. They have faired marginally better in the African Nations Cup with five Round One showings.
During the last decade, the team has suffered some controversy with FIFA. In 2004, they were suspended for three months due to the government's interference in football matters. The team were suspended again in 2006 after failing to resolve the problems in their football federation.
The country's main success has arrived in the CECAFA Cup which is between teams from Central and Eastern Africa. Kenya has won the tournament five times and has been runners up on four other occasions. Nevertheless, the tournament is not well known due to the lowly status of the competing nations.
