Erik Manuel Lamela is an Argentine footballer who plays for English club Tottenham Hotspur and Argentina. Lamela was born on the 4th of March 1992 and he began his club career at Argentine giants River Plate. Lamela made his professional debut on the 14th of June 2009 in a match against Tigre and he netted his first goal against Colon in the Apertura tournament. Lamela became a regular starter at the club in the 2010-11 season where he made 34 appearances scoring four goals.
Due to the relegation format of the Argentine Primera that accounts a team's last three seasons River were dropped to the Second Division which subsequently resulted in Lamela moving to Italian club AS Roma. He joined the club for €12 million and he scored his first goal against Palermo in October 2011. The Argentine became an important attacking option at the club where he played two seasons at the club scoring 21 goals and making 12 assists in 66 matches.
On the 30th of August 2013 Tottenham Hotspur completed the transfer of Lamela from AS Roma for a fee of £25.8 million where this would make him the club's most expensive player ever breaking the recent fees of Paulinho and Roberto Soldado. Lamela made his debut for the club in the North London derby against Arsenal where they lost 1-0. Lamela made his debut for Argentina in May 2011 in a friendly against Paraguay.
