Paolo Maldini is an Italian player who plays for Milan. Paolo was born on the 26th June 1968 and is the son of Cesare Maldini, an Italian football coach and former player. The only club Maldini has player for is Serie A club Milan. He is the most selected player in the history of Milan and of Serie A, making an impressive 606 appearance for Milan (until 7th February 2008) scoring 28 goals in the process.
Maldini is 1.86m tall, and at the age of 39 still captains and features for Milan. His favoured positions are centre back and left back. His shirt number is the number 3, the number that has already been reserved for his son Christian Maldini, after Paola retires. It was after winning FIFA Club World Cup 2007 over Boca Juniors that Maldini decided to end a successful career at the end of the present season. He will always be remembered by the Milan and Italy faithful as a great player. With Milan, he won the Serie A 7 times, the Coppa Italia once, the Italian Super Cup 5 times, the UEFA Champions League 5 times, the UEFA Super Cup 5 times, the Intercontinental Cup twice and the FIFA Club World Championship once.
Maldini has never won a major title with the Italian national team. He played in 3 World Cups (1994, 1998, 2002). The 1994 World Cup was lost to Brazil on penalties, while the 1998 and 2002 World Cups were disappointing for the Italians, which were eliminated at the quarterfinals and round of 16 respectively. Maldini announced his international retirement after the 2002 World Cup. He was requested to return to international duty for the 2006 World Cup, which was won by Italy, but he had declined. This long and successful career makes Maldini one of the most loyal and successful players that played for Milan and Italy.
