Womens football at the club is focused on developing and coaching the youth levels. A decision was made in 2005 which saw the adult womens side being dropped from the Women's Premier League. The decision was made on the basis that the club could contribute to the country's fastest growing female sport to coach girls up to the age of 16.
The Manchester United Foundation FA Centre of Excellence was established in 2009 and they provide opportunities for girls to play football at the highest level. Players who are selected for the Centre receive intensive training and support. The club produce shirts for women in all different sizes. The club have worldwide popularity including the growing group of womens fans and shirt sales have been rapidly increasing in recent years.
