One of the newest teams in international football, Montenegro play in an all red strip with gold details which is similar to the colours found on the country's flag. Forming in 2006 after Montenegro achieved independence from Serbia & Montenegro; the team played its first international fixture in March of 2007 against Hungary which they won 2-1.
Nicknamed the Brave Falcons the team wears an all white strip with red details in fixtures away from home. Qualification for Euro 2012 was an exciting time for Montenegro fans; the team went in to qualifying as major underdogs but performed exceedingly well defying all expectations. They beat Wales, Bulgaria & Switzerland in their first three matches causing other teams to stand up and take notice. They went on to draw twice with 5th ranked team in the world, England.
Finishing second in Group G behind England, they would go on to lose their play-off against the Czech Republic. But the team should hold their heads high after achieving a FIFA ranking of 16th in June 2011, a massive achievement for such a new team.
The second match against England was one of their most exciting to date. 2-0 down early on in the match Zverotic pulled a goal back for Montenegro in the 45th minute. The second half proved to be a tense affair with both teams creating chances on goal but unable to finish. With England looking like they were about to secure the three points and kill off Montenegro's chances of a possible play-off for Euro 2012, Andrija Delibašić's popped up to head home an equaliser in stoppage time to send the 40,000 strong home crowd into a wild frenzy.
