Nagatomo is a Japanese full-back, playing in Italy for Internazionale. His football career began properly at Meiji University in 2006, where he played in the college's team. He impressed in defence, gaining attention from J-league clubs and administrators, where he was fast-tracked into debuting for F.C. Tokyo in 2007. He signed permanently with the team in 2008, and went on to make 84 appearances and win one J-league title in three full seasons.
Not long after becoming a full professional player in 2008, Nagatomo made his international debut for Japan against CÃƒÂ´te D'Ivoire. Several months later he scored his first international goal against Syria in a friendly, and has since become an important part of the national side ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ usually playing at left-back. He had an impressive 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and was linked with a move to Europe following the tournament.
It was Cesena in Italy's Serie A that made the move for Nagatomo in July 2010, playing there for 6 months. His form was so impressive he was persuaded to move on loan to Inter Milan for the second half of the season, taking the shirt number 55. He was part of the side that won the Coppa Italia in 2011, and has relished appearing in the Champions League in the last two seasons.
