Onuoha is a Nigerian-born, English defender for Queens Park Rangers. An impressive athlete during his schooling, he joined City through the Academy system and made his debut for the club aged 17 against Arsenal in 2004. Naturally a centre-half, Onuoha's speed and aerial ability made him an exciting prospect for City and England. The 2004-2005 season saw him play 18 times, however he was sent-off for the first time in the Carling Cup.
Since 2005, Onuoha has had several long stints as a first team starter at City, but has been majorly disrupted by recurring injuries and increased competition within the Blues' defence ranks. He was a mainstay in the international fold for England U21s, debuting in 2005 and playing in the 2007 U21 European Championships in the Netherlands.
In total he represented the U21s 21 times with two goals; however he has not been capped by England at senior level. He is also eligible for his birth-land Nigeria.
During the transfer window before the 2010-2011 season, Onuoha moved to Sunderland on a season-long loan. Onuoha grabbed his opportunity for regular match time, playing 31 times and scoring twice – one of which was an impressive solo effort against Chelsea in a famous 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge. He returned to Manchester for their inaugural Champions League season in 2011-2012.
