FC Porto played in Group H of the 2014-15 Champions League group stage with Shakhtar Donetsk, Athletic Bilbao and BATE Borisov. Due to Porto showing dominance in their group stage fixtures with an unbeaten run of six games, the Portuguese club were drawn the favourable tie against FC Basel of whom they convincingly defeated 5-1 over the two legs. Progressing to the Quarter-finals Porto were pulled out of the hat to face German giants Bayern Munich and given a first leg at the Estádio do Dragão which saw a 3-1 home win however Bayern would turn the tie around in the return leg with an emphatic 6-1 win which knocked the Primeira Liga club out of the competition in a 4-7 defeat.
