Robbie Keane currently plays for American club Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS and national football for the Republic of Ireland where he is the leading all time goal scorer and appearance maker for the nation. Having played for several clubs in his career including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City, Internazionale, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham United, Los Angeles Galaxy and Aston Villa he has never won a major tournament apart from the 2007-09 League Cup with Tottenham Hotspur.
Robert David 'Robbie' Keane was born in Tallaght, Dublin, on the 8th July 1980. He is an Irish footballer, who currently plays as a striker for Tottenham Hotspur and for the Republic of Ireland national team. Keane started his football career with South Dublin schoolboy side, Crumlin United where his talent was recognised at an early age. As an U-10 schoolboy he was being watched by scouts from a number of English professional clubs, including Premier League side Liverpool.
When he joined the professional ranks, he turned down Liverpool to join Wolverhampton Wanderers, he felt he had a greater chance of breaking into the first team at the First Division side. He played for Wolverhampton Wanderers for two seasons, making 88 appearances and scoring 29 goals, before a Ã¯Â¿Â½6m transfer to Coventry City in 1999, a then British record for a teenager.
Keane moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2002, following a brief sojourn in to Europe with Internazionale 2000-01 and then Leeds 2001-2. he is now a regular in the Spurs side and has a goal record of 65 in 161 appearances. He has been on the International stage since 1998 and with over 70 appearances and 29 goals is a strong member of the squad.
