James Rodriguez is a Colombian winger who plays for Real Madrid and the Colombia national football team. Rodriguez made a name for himself at the 2014 World Cup where he won the World Cup Golden Boot for scoring six goals which included the Goal of the Tournament against Uruguay.
Born on the 12th of July 1991 Rodriguez started his professional career at Envigado FC in 2006 before moving to Argentine club Banfield in 2008. He made his first team debut on the 7th of February 2009 scoring his first goal on the 27th of February with a long range strike in a 3-1 win over Rosario Central. Rodriguez played another two seasons at the club before signing for Portuguese club FC Porto in 2010 for €5.1 million. Signing a four year deal at FC Porto Rodriguez scored on his debut against Ajax. He scored his first goal in European football in a 3-1 win over CSKA Sofia. The Colombian forward made a name for himself in the following two seasons where he helped Porto to win the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League, three Primeira Liga titles, one Taca de Portugal and three Portuguese Supercups. He won the 2012 Portuguese Golden Ball award while at FC Porto.
In May 2013 Rodriguez signed for AS Monaco for €45,000,000 making him the second most expensive transfer in Portuguese football behind former team mate Hulk. Rodriguez made his AS Monaco debut against Bordeaux in a 2-0 win and he made several assists early on in his AS Monaco career. In the summer of 2014 after the 2014 World Cup Rodriguez signed for Real Madrid. Rodriguez made his debut for the club against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.
Having played for Colombia at several youth levels Rodriguez made his Colombia debut against Bolivia in October 2011. The Colombian play maker provided several assists early on in his international career. Rodriguez was a star for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup where he won the Golden Boot award for six goals. His six goals included the best goal of the tournament against Uruguay in the Round of 16 match.
