In 1900, a crisis hit the club when all the players of the team left for neighbour club Beerschot AC, which had just received a cash injection and was better equipped with training equipment. Antwerp had to build a new team from scratch in the second division, but was back in the top-flight by 1901. In total, until today, Royal Antwerp have won the Belgian league 4 times with the last time being the 1956-57 season. They ranked as runners-up on 11 occasions. They are the only Belgian club to reach a European Cup final, losing by 3-1 to Parma in the final of Cup Winners. Cup 1992-93.
Currently, the team plays in the Belgian Second Division and is managed by English manager Warren Joyce. They have a long-term partnership agreement with mega-club Manchester United, which benefits both clubs. Manchester United send out players to Antwerp, for them to gain a work permit by obtaining European citizenship. This is due to the Belgian relaxed citizenship laws. Antwerp, on the other hand, benefit from the talent of the youth footballers that were brought up by a big club as Man Utd. Royal Antwerp's stadium is the Bosuilstadion which can hold 16649 supporters.
