The Tartan Army were officially established as an international football team in 1872 and their most common Scotland away shirt features a white base with red and blue trim. Other key away shirts include yellow and maroon shirts. Scotland have not always played in blue where on a number of occasions between 1881 and 1951 they played in primrose and pink. Scotland have had several big names to wear the shirt including Kenny Dalglish, Alex McLeish, Jim Leighton, Paul McStay, Kenny Miller, Denis Law, Hughie Gallacher and many more. Here’s a page where you can get the latest news about Scotland’s alternate kits (we now have the Euro 2024 edition added).
Scotland Away Kit
From 1994 to 1996 a tartan away shirt was used. Other famous Scotland away shirts include the 1999-2000 shirt which was salmon pink. The away shirt used for their 1998 FIFA World Cup appearance was yellow with dark blue and red trim.
2024 Scotland Away Shirt
The 2024 Scotland away shirt deviates from tradition as far as their alternate kit history is concerned. That is because the shirt subscribed to a light mint base, which is something new for a Scotland away kit. Against this base colour pops in a purple accent coursing through the lateral curved trims, template shoulder stripes and monochrome logos. The Tartan influence is carried out through the sides of the shirt, which displays the cultural pattern in blue. The side panel, and by extension the Tartan graphic, flows to the back and forms a U-shaped seam toward the lower edge.
2022/23 Scotland Away Shirt
Scotland’s 2022 adidas away has a relatively bright and clean look compared to the home, courtesy of the white base and the minimal navy and purple accents on the sleeve cuffs, collar, and template shoulder stripes. It also has a tartan detailing, this time on the body but woven directly to the fabric.
2020/21 Scotland Away Shirt
One of the unique kits released in 2020 is the Scotland adidas away kit. The shirt features sky blue diagonal lines with gradient spraypaint-like finishes in between the spaces, resulting in a micro-diamond formation that looks similar to reptile scales. The graphic covers both front and back, as well as the sleeves. The shirt is arguably the lighter version of the Ajax 2020 away kit which has the same, albeit darker, aesthetics. Navy blue shades up the narrow v-collar, shoulder stripes, and adidas logo on the right chest. Sitting opposite the adidas marking is the officially-coloured Scotland FA emblem. White shorts and socks complete the new away outfit.
