Seattle Sounders FC is a professional soccer club based in Seattle, Washington. they were awarded MLS status on November 13th 2007 and they are the 15th team to join the MLS. They will begin play in 2009 season. The club will play at Qwest Field in Seattle, which is also the home of American football team Seattle Seahawks. The stadium is a 67,000 seat stadium designed for both American football and soccer however for soccer, the upper bowl of the stadium will be parted off, leaving a seating capacity of 24,500.

Seattle Sounders FC was announced as the team name on April 7, 2008, along with the team logo, colours and badge design at a presentation at the Space Needle. The badge design represents a heraldic shield, consisting of two layers representing partnership between the ownership, the community, the players, and the fans. The logo includes the space needle which is a nationally recognized landmark of Seattle .The team colours are Sounder Blue, representing the waters of the Puget Sound, Rave Green, representing the forests of the Pacific Northwest; and Cascade Shale, representing the Cascade Range to the east of Seattle.

Fans were able to choose a new name for the team in an online poll. Initially, three possible names were announced which were; Seattle F.C., Seattle Republic and Seattle Alliance. Seattle Sounders name was left out because they wanted to have a fresh start. this was an unpopular decision with internal committees and fans and in response, Seattle Sounders name was added. Of the 14,500 votes received for the new team name, 49% of the votes were for the name Sounders which keeps with the tradition of the highest level team being called the Sounders.

Seattle Sounders are an American soccer club based in Seattle and they play in the MLS and the Western Conference. The club were formed in 2007 and they were the 15th team to play in the league and their home shirts are green with blue and white trim. The club have never won the MLS but they have won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on three occasions and in 2013 the club announced the signing of American superstar Clint Dempsey from Tottenham Hotspur into their roster.
