Xherdan Shaqiri is a Swiss footballer who plays for German club bayern Munich and the Switzerland national football team. Since Shaqiri's breakthrough into Basel's first team he has developed a reputation for one of the deadliest wingers in the Bundesliga.
Born on the 10th of October 1991 in Gnjilane, SFR Yugoslavia to ethnic Albanians his family fled Albania to Switzerland due to the Kosovo conflict. Shaqiri began his club career at SV Augst and then FC Basel. At FC Basel he played in the Under-15 Nike Cup in 2007 and was named best player of the tournament. He played for the reserve team in 2007 and 2009 and he signed his first professional contract in January 2009. Shaqiri made his Basel debut in July 2009 and scored his first goal in November 2009 against Neuchatel Xamax. He helped the Swiss club to win the Super League on three occasions and the Swiss Cup on two occasions.
In February 2012 Shaqiri signed a deal with German giants Bayern Munich for Ã¢â€šÂ¬11.6 million on a four year deal. He made his debut for the club in a friendly match against SpVgg Unterhaching in a 1-0 win. His first official appearance was against SSV Jahn Regensburg in the DFB-Pokal where he provided assists for Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro. He played an important part in the club's 2012-13 season where the club won the treble winning the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles. His future for both club and country looks to be a good one.
Having played for Switzerland at youth levels Shaqiri made his senior debut for his nation in March 2010 in a 3-1 loss to Uruguay. In September 2010 he scored his first international goal against England in a 1-3 loss in a Euro 2012 Qualifier.
