Sheffield United is one of the clubs in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. They then play cross-city rivals Sheffield Wednesday in what is now called ‘Steel City Derbies’ due to the steel industry in the area. The club has featured in some pop culture and media, like the child wearing a 1990s Blades shirt in the 2005 Batmand Begins, and the reference to the club by the Prisoner’s Wives.

In signing with Errea in 2022, Sheffield United became part of the United World Network that included Beerschot AV in Belgium, Châteauroux LB in France, Kerala United in India and Al Hilal United in the UAE. Part of the deal was that United World clubs, most especially Sheffield United, were to receive bespoke kits from the Italian company.

Sheffield United 23/24 Home Shirt

Sheffield United had Errea produce for them a traditional red and white striped look for their 2023/24 home shirt. But in a nod to the 1997/98 home shirt, the striping had above-average width to them and with noticeable black borders between them. The result was a look where the red stripes occupied the centre and the flanks, with the white ones gaining prominence in-between. Launching under the tagline ‘Steel City, Rising’ the shirt was meant to capture the evolution of the club and city from their humble origins up to their successes and highlights. The red raglan sleeves connected the collar and the sleeve cuffs, both of which were black with a white middle striping. A white ‘Blades’ symbol signed off the look at the back right below the collar.

Sheffield United Home 2022/23 KitSheffield United began their Errea kit era with the home shirt being traditional as ever with the incorporation of the bespoke red-and-white striped design. It was a Blades home shirt heavily accented by black, as seen through the stripes’ borders, narrow sleeve cuffs and round collar. The pattern also continued to the sleeves, with no seamed panel on the shoulders or laterals unlike some previous Sheffield United home kits in the past. It ended up a winning shirt as the club secured a promotion back to the Premier League.

The distinctness of the Sheffield United adidas 2020/21 home was due to the use of pale pink as the colour base of the shirt. On top of the uniqueness of the colour choice, the club’s new away kit also featured a subtle jacquard print similar to the one used in the Juventus 19-20 Third kit. The three black stripes on each shoulder were elements introduced by adidas on their recent kit releases.

Other black applications were the trimmings near the edge of the sleeves’ openings and the adidas logo on the right chest. The club’s crest was on the left chest while their main sponsor’s branding took a significant space of the centre of the body. The shorts of Sheffield’s new away strip was black.
