Sierra Leone plays in green shirts with white trim, white shorts and blue socks. They play their home games in the National Stadium, Sierra Leone which holds 30,000 seats. The country have won the Amilcar Cabral Cup twice one in 1993 and one in 1995. The country have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup. They have played in the 1994 and 1996 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sierra Leone is an African football nation who plays in the CAF. The nations highest FIFA ranking was 51 in January 1996. The nations lowest ranking was 172 in September 2007. The country's first match was against Nigeria in August 1954 and then played Ghana in 1961 and they lost 2-0 on both occasions.

Sierra Leone's first match outside of Africa was also their first against an Asian nation, China. They lost 4–1 in China on 5 April 1974.
